Bat Blankets

I saw this on the news tonight so I just had to share it with you. As all of you know Australia has been receiving so much rain. A lot of animals are being displaced with the flooding including bats. When people think of bats it is with the thought of vampires, however, bats are so beneficial to our eco system. We love to see the bats fly around here in the summer as we know it means fewer mosquitoes!
When I went on the web to read the full story it is quite interesting. The Australian bat clinic are keeping these baby bat in these blankets hanging on clothes lines, and feeding them until they are able to go out on their own again. So far they have saved 130 of them.
Now I know bats are not the prettiest things, but they look kinda cute here don't they?
If you would like to read more here is the link to it http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/ns/nightly_news/
Nightie night!

Oh Ulrike, those are just the cutest little baby bats I have ever seen... I love them, and I just read the story about their rescue... I love people who help all of God's precious little critters... xoxo Julie Marie

Guess I'd never thought about bats being "cute" before, Ulrike, but my favorite one is the first one on the left in the yellow blanket!

Oh my goodness, they look adorable in that picture. I've been thinking about getting a bat house/nest (guess I'm not sure what the right word for it is) and hanging it up in our backyard. We do see quite a few bats here during the summer and it would be nice to know that we are offering them a place to "hang their head"...

OMGosh---they are darling! It looks like the were swaddled in the soft flannel dust cloths. Little bat blankets... ;D
It's nice to see that they are realized for their beneficial value. We have them here sometimes in the summer; I enjoy them but a lot of locals don't. They eat so many bad bugs....I need to put up a bat house.
Thanks for posting this!

Very similar to saving the turtles in the Gulf. Very heartwarming, Ulrike. Thanks for sharing it. Love your background! Nancy
